Rainbow Class

WELCOME TO THE RAINBOW CLASS!

We really strive to make the classroom engaging for the children by having a variety of activities available for them and exploring different art mediums throughout the year.  We sing lots of songs, play fun games and make new friends! Socialization is our main goal for our Rainbow Room students. We encourage the children to play, be creative, get their hands messy, and have fun.

For many children, this is their first experience being in a group setting.  We create an engaging and caring environment for our students, that fosters learning and self-expression. We also focus on teaching self-help skills, letting each child become independent with snack time, potty training, and free choice.

Cultivating independence allows our students to make their own choices and learn cause and effect from those choices. We care for our students and make their first year a fun, safe, and positive experience!

Meet the Teachers

  • LEAD TEACHER

Hi! My name is Heather Basse. I am so excited to spend the year with your family in the Rainbow class. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your childrens early explorations!

I have two kiddos - They are currently 12 and 10! Our family is made up of avid campers and hikers, and are frequently found exploring waterfalls or finding new hiking trails close to home. We are also big animal lovers, and our current menagerie is a dog, 2 sphynx cats, a gecko, the classroom frog, and lots of fish!

I’ve worked with children in multiple capacities for the last eighteen years and am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Special Education. This is my seventh year teaching at Little Acorn. I’ve been here since my oldest was in this community! I love teaching this age because the kids have so much personality, social growth, and love of learning. I am so excited to get this year started and get to know all of our new Rainbow friends!

  • ASSISTANT TEACHER

Hello Little Acorn Community - I am thrilled to be an Assistant Teacher in the Rainbow classroom this year with Heather!

My family was first introduced to Little Acorn in 2021 when my eldest daughter (now in second grade at VITA) started attending pre-school in the Dragonfly classroom. The teachers and community were such a warm way for our family to begin connecting with the outside world again as covid restrictions began to ease. That daughter moved on to the Leap Frog classroom, and I was so impressed with how this school had prepared her for Kindergarten. When my second daughter began attending Little Acorn last year in the Rainbow classroom I joined the Board of Directors and halfway through the year I started subbing as needed. That experience was so much fun that I decided to apply when I heard there was an opening.

I have over two decades of experience supporting children in a variety of environments including schools, homes, foster care, nannying, hospitals and community settings.

I am grateful to be part of the Little Acorn community in this new role, and always get giddy when I get to wave to my 3 year old when we pass each other in the halls & on the playground. I’m looking forward to getting to know you, and am honored to support your beautiful, growing children throughout this year!
